This position works under direct supervision incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties involved in receiving, prioritizing and transmitting emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and emergency medical services, and dispatching personnel and equipment in response to those calls. Public Safety Dispatcher I is the entry-level class. Under moderate supervision, receives emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and emergency medical services transmits information via computer aided dispatch (CAD), multi-frequency radio transmitter/receiver, telephone, alarm or other communications equipment dispatches public safety and medical personnel and equipment according to prescribed procedures and performs related duties as assigned. Failure to submit a typing test may automatically disqualify candidates from further consideration.
