This position works under direct supervision incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties involved in receiving, prioritizing and transmitting emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and emergency medical services, and dispatching personnel and equipment in response to those calls. Public Safety Dispatcher I is the entry-level class. Under moderate supervision, receives emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and emergency medical services transmits information via computer aided dispatch (CAD), multi-frequency radio transmitter/receiver, telephone, alarm or other communications equipment dispatches public safety and medical personnel and equipment according to prescribed procedures and performs related duties as assigned. Failure to submit a typing test may automatically disqualify candidates from further consideration. The certification must be issued by a recognized source such as a business school, employment agency, etc., Typing tests obtained through the internet are not accepted. A minimum T-score of 57 is required on this examination in order to continue in the recruitment process. The Human Resources Director or their designee may specify the number of eligible candidates to be qualified in the examination or any part thereof.
