both holes that go down from the resivore are not blocked. I have had it apart twice now and cant find the problem. I have disc breaks on the back and a neal single handled cutting break. I've heard many say with front AND rear discs an upgraded master is needed. I assumed it had to be very tight because I didn't see a flare. Got sidetracked by one of those typical screwups- when switching over the brake switches to the new mc I overtightened one and rung it off, ruining the new master. Really? My 1968 German built Beetle has factory front disk brakes and the MC has 1 port closest to the driver to operate the rear drums and 2 ports at the front to operate the left and right front calipers. "Original VW disc MC's had the rearmost cylinder (nearest driver) operate both front callipers and the other (nearest the front) the rear circuit". This master has two connections in front and one in back, so I assume the two are for the front lines and the one for the back. Posted: Sat 9:38 pm Post subject: Re: Low brake pressure cause

Did several at each location, cracked the fitting open and bled between readings to make sure there was no air in the system. Posted: Sat 9:36 pm Post subject: Re: Low brake pressure causeĭoesn't make sense, but those are the readings I got. If you have Ferrel fittings you might have pinched one off. Just because it's "new" doesn't mean it's good, replace the low pressure piping side. Posted: Sat 5:15 pm Post subject: Re: Low brake pressure cause Yes the force that the calliper "sees" will be dependent on the ratio of the calliper and MC piston areas but pressure in the pipes and MC and the calliper supply will always be the same (minus a small line loss). If your pressure at the MC is 200 psig then it cannot be higher at the calliper. You cannot have pressure at the MC less than the pressure measured at the calliper unless you have different forces being applied when you measure it. The pressure in any hydraulic circuit will be identical. There's also some issue with how and where you are measuring pressure. If your MC was faulty say at the front circuit then both left and right callipers should have the same pressure. Original VW disc MC's had the rearmost cylinder (nearest driver) operate both front callipers and the other (nearest the front) the rear circuit. Posted: Sat 4:36 pm Post subject: Re: Low brake pressure causeĪre you saying both front and back callipers on one side are low? Or only the front. Not sure why pressure would be lower for the left than right, don't they connect to the same piston? VW's don't have cross circuit type dual masters, correct? I do have an extra dual master, guess I'll replace it and go from there. I was about to replace the hose but couldn't buy one locally. Measurement at the left caliper was about 500 pounds, (RH side was 1000) at the master it's only 200 or so. Posted: Sat 12:44 pm Post subject: Re: Low brake pressure cause

Plus I tend to prefer these impossible projects that take way too much time. There is never enough time to do it right the first time, but all the time necessary the second time! How about checking directly at the master cylinder? Posted: Sat 10:11 am Post subject: Re: Low brake pressure cause Is there any possible cause other than a collapsing rubber brake hose? Looks like the left caliper has about half the pressure (500 pounds) as the right one! So that's the problem, now, what's the solution? All components (including hoses and steel lines) are brand new. Been chasing a problem with pulling to the right- finally ordered a pressure gauge and hooked it up to the bleeder on right and left calipers. I have a '74 with a four wheel disc brake conversion.
